With the Bavarian Cancer Patient Award 2024 - Patient Communication Award, the Bavarian Cancer Society honors particularly convincing communication and networking concepts that contribute to the optimized care of oncological patients. Under the patronage of Minister of State Judith Gerlach, the award was presented on Friday at the Künstlerhaus in Munich.
"The patient house is our response to the growing need for supportive and low-threshold care for cancer patients. We don't leave patients with a cancer diagnosis alone," says Franziska Weiher, coordinator of the patient house. "The award confirms our concept of bundled support services for cancer patients in addition to specialist treatment, which is unique in Germany." From nutritional advice and complementary medical support to psychosocial support for people of all ages - cancer patients have been able to find a wide range of free support services under one roof at the patient house since 2022. In 2023 and 2024, the range of services was expanded and supplemented with group sessions on breathing and exercise. The patient house also serves as a meeting place for the patient advisory board and self-help groups. The range of services is rounded off by extensive patient information events.
The patient house was designed and implemented in cooperation between the CCC Munich - an association of the cancer centers of the two Munich university hospitals and the Tumor Center Munich -, the association lebensmut e.V., the Bavarian Cancer Society e.V. and the patient advisory board of the CCC Munich.
